Privacy Policy

Effective 3 September 2026 · Taken Daily for iOS (“Taken.”, “the app”), made by Josbach.

1. What stays on your phone

• Your reminder time, pack setup (for example 21 + 7), the days you marked as Taken or Skip, snooze state, sound and discretion settings, and the “what gets in the way” answer from onboarding.
• This data is stored in the app’s private container and a shared App Group so the widget, Lock Screen, Dynamic Island and alarm surfaces can show it. It is included in your iCloud or iTunes device backup if you back up your phone, but the app itself never uploads it.
• Reminders, follow-ups and alarms are scheduled locally with Apple’s notification and AlarmKit frameworks. No server is involved.

2. What we collect

We use Google Firebase to keep the app stable and to understand how it is used. Firebase may collect:

• Diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics): crash logs and stack traces, device model, OS version, app version, free memory and similar technical details at the time of a crash.
• Performance (Firebase Performance Monitoring): app start time, screen rendering and network timing.
• Usage (Firebase Analytics): which screens are shown and events such as “onboarding complete”, “taken”, “snooze”, “paywall view” or “purchase”, plus coarse device and region information and a random installation identifier. We do not send the reminder time, your pack, or which days you tapped.

This data is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID. We use it only to fix bugs and improve the app. Firebase is provided by Google LLC; see Google’s Firebase privacy documentation.

3. Purchases and the paywall

• Purchases are handled by Apple through StoreKit. We never see your payment details. Apple’s handling of that data is described in Apple’s privacy policy.
• The purchase screen is served by Superwall (Superwall, Inc.). To decide which screen to show and to measure it, Superwall receives an anonymous app-user identifier, device and app attributes (device model, OS version, locale, app version), the paywall events (shown, dismissed, purchased) and the App Store product identifiers. It does not receive your reminder data.
• You can restore purchases from Settings → Restore purchase at any time.

4. What we never collect

• No account, email, phone number or name. The app never asks.
• No health, medical or fitness data, and no HealthKit access. Taken. is a reminder, not a health record.
• No contacts, photos, location, microphone or camera.
• No advertising identifiers and no ads.

5. Permissions the app asks for

• Notifications: to ring at your time and send follow-ups. Optional; the app works without them but cannot remind you.
• Alarms (iOS 26 and later, optional): when you turn on “Ring through Silent & Focus”, the app schedules alarms with AlarmKit. Alarms are local to your phone.
• Face ID (optional): to lock the app. Biometric data never leaves the Secure Enclave and is never available to us.

6. Data retention and deletion

Everything in section 1 is deleted when you delete the app. Firebase diagnostics and usage data are retained by Google for up to 14 months and then deleted or aggregated. Because we hold no account and no identity, we cannot look up “your” analytics; if you want your installation’s data removed, reinstalling the app creates a new random identifier.

7. Children

Taken. is rated 4+ but is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with a new effective date. Material changes are also mentioned in the App Store release notes.
